ICT Sector Celebrates National Sports Day with Activities Showcasing the Role of Digital Innovation in Sports

As part of its commitment to promoting sports as an essential element of a healthy lifestyle and strengthening connections among professionals in the ICT sector, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Ooredoo Qatar, organized a series of diverse sporting activities in celebration of  National Sport Day 2025. The event, held under the theme “Never Too Late”, takes place annually on the second Tuesday of February and was hosted at Al Bidda Park. The event witnessed broad participation from MCIT employees and ICT sector professionals, who contributed to its success and vibrant atmosphere.

The National Sport Day event featured a wide range of energetic activities tailored for all age groups, including running and marathon races, along with a highly anticipated cycling competition, which saw enthusiastic participation. Additionally, the event included football matches and various physical challenges such as tug-of-war, obstacle races, and team-based competitions that encouraged teamwork and collaboration. A large number of families participated in the event, with designated spaces for women and special activities for children and families, adding a distinctive social aspect to the occasion. With approximately 700 attendees, the event underscored the strong community interest in sports and physical well-being.

On this occasion, Mr. Hassan Jassim Al Sayed, Minister’s advisor, and Artificial Intelligence Committee Chairman at MCIT, stated: “National Sport Day is an ideal opportunity not only to promote a culture of sports and physical activity but also to enhance relationships among ICT professionals, fostering a more interactive and positive work environment. This event serves as a platform for engagement and collaboration, strengthening cohesion within the sector. It reflects the spirit of cooperation and innovation that we strive to achieve through the Digital Agenda 2030. At MCIT, we are committed to working with our strategic partners to instill this culture and encourage a healthy lifestyle that contributes to improving the quality of life and overall well-being of our society.”

The event saw participation from several entities within the ICT sector, including CRA and Ooredoo Qatar, both of whom played a key role in supporting the event. Their contributions were instrumental in creating an innovative sports experience, showcasing the integration of digital advancements in enhancing physical activity engagement. Additionally, Qatar National Broadband Network (QNBN) and Huawei actively took part in the event.

Commenting on the occasion, Engineer Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of the Communications Regulatory Authority, said: “At CRA, we affirm our commitment to contribute to promoting a healthy and connected lifestyle through developing regulatory instruments that drive digital transformation in the country, in which telecommunications and technology stand as two key elements for an active connected society.” He added: “This Day is a manifestation of Qatar’s vision of making sports an integral part of daily life, which we ensure to support through CRA’s strategy for developing the ICT sector in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030. We encourage everyone to embrace physical activity and utilize available digital solutions that enhance their sports experience and social connectivity, contributing to improving quality of life and maximizing the benefits of available digital advancements.”

Mr. Sabah Rabiah Al-Kuwari, Senior Director of Marketing Communications at Ooredoo Qatar, also commented: “We are delighted to collaborate with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in celebrating National Sport Day, reinforcing our shared commitment to encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle in Qatar. At the conclusion of the event, winners across the various activities were honored, with prizes and medals distributed in a spirited and competitive atmosphere. This celebration highlighted the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle and fostering health awareness within the community.
