Our Story

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has been instrumental in shaping Qatar's digital landscape. Our journey began in an era before technology had dominated, and today, we proudly drive Qatar's position as a technological frontrunner.

Laying the Foundation

2003 The e-Government project and portal were launched, marking our first steps towards digital services.  
2004 The Supreme Council for Communication and Information Technology (ictQATAR) was established, creating a solid governance framework for ICT development.  
2005 Qatar Computer Emergency Response Team (Q-CERT) was founded, recognizing cybersecurity's growing importance.  
2006 The Integrated Government Program (i-Gov) was initiated, streamlining government processes.  

Building Momentum

2008 Hukoomi 1 Portal was launched, providing the public with easier access to government services, and more steps were taken towards a digitally advanced society, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.   
2010 Mada - Assistive Technology Center Qatar was established, ensuring digital inclusion for all, and Hukoomi 2 Portal was launched, offering even more services and improvements.  
2011 The Digital Incubation Center was founded, nurturing Qatar's innovative tech entrepreneurs.  
2014 Qatar e-Government 2020 Strategy was launched, defining our digital roadmap, and the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) ensures a competitive digital landscape  

Accelerating Digital Growth

2015 Hukoomi mobile app was launched to further simplify citizen interactions. 
2016 A specialized Hukoomi portal for migrant workers was launched, demonstrating our efforts towards inclusivity.  
2017 Hukoomi 3 and Hukoomi for Persons with Disabilities portals were launched, reflecting our commitment to accessibility.   
2018 MCIT earned ISO 9001 certification, illustrating quality standards.   
2019 Qatar hosted the first Smart City Expo Doha, highlighting its vision for smart urban living, while Tasdeeq Portal was launched to simplify business registration processes and enhance efficiency for entrepreneurs. Additionally, Qatar introduced its National AI Strategy, marking a significant step towards integrating artificial intelligence across various sectors.    

A Surge of Innovation

2021 The Artificial Intelligence Committee has been driving ethical AI development, whereas TASMU Smart Qatar Program has been accelerating digital transformation across sectors.  
2023 The first Cloud Region marked a significant milestone for scalability, along with the Digital Factory Initiative, which supports a thriving digital manufacturing ecosystem.  
2024 The Digital Agenda 2030 empowers citizens and promotes sustainable development, while the Arabic Artificial Intelligence Large Language Model (LLM) Fanar aims at revolutionizing Arabic generative AI content, enhancing translation programs, media, and academic research.
