Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Launches the 3rd Edition of Smart City Expo Doha 2023

Under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and esteemed guests, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) launched today the third edition of Smart City Expo Doha 2023 at the Conference Center of Al-Bidda Park in the Cultural Zone. This event serves as a leading platform to explore urban innovation opportunities and develop sustainable cities through a diverse range of in-depth discussions, and dialogues led by distinguished figures from Qatar, the region, and around the world. The event showcased keynote speeches, informative expert panels, and interactive sessions that shed light on important topics such as sustainable urban planning, digital infrastructure, smart mobility solutions, and the transformative influence of technology on elevating the quality of citizens’ lives.

In his opening speech at the conference, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, stated: “Smart City Expo Doha 2023 exemplifies Qatar’s relentless commitment to innovation and sustainable urban development. We are working to harness the immense potential of technology and data to create smart, inclusive cities that are flexible and capable of meeting the growing needs of our communities.  The expo brings together experts, industry leaders, and policymakers to establish a collaborative working environment where ideas can flourish, partnerships can be formed, and innovative solutions are developed, paving the path for tomorrow's cities.”

The event included keynote session by Mr. Safder Nazir, Senior Vice President of Public Sector for the Middle East & Central Asia at Huawei Technologies. This session was instrumental in delving into the developmental trajectory of cities, examining the intricate connections between environmental considerations, societal expectations, technological advancements, and key priorities. Mr. Alessio Bagnaresi, the Director of AI & Advanced Analytics at Google Cloud EMEA, also took the lead in a session dedicated to the global deployment of AI solutions in urban settings. Bagnaresi emphasized the noteworthy results stemming from these technological interventions, underscoring the transformative potential that AI holds within urban landscapes.

The third edition of Smart City Expo Doha 2023 witnesses board participation from around the globe, positioning Doha as a hub for smart city innovation. The expo provides opportunities for global partnerships to develop sustainable urban projects. Building on the success of previous editions, notably Smart City Expo Doha 2022 themed "Safe and Smart Cities", the Ministry invites all interested parties to visit the Smart City Expo Doha 2023 to stay updated on the latest developments in the world of smart cities and urban solutions.
