The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has signed a cooperation agreement with MEEZA to expand the operational capabilities of the Azure Qatar Data enter by adding two new capacities of 4 and 6 megawatts. This expansion is an important step toward strengthening the readiness of the country’s cloud infrastructure and providing greater capacity to meet the growing demand for digital services.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Sami Al Shammari, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at MCIT, and Mr. Mohammed Ali Al-Ghaithani, Chief Executive Officer of MEEZA, on the sidelines of MWC25 Doha.
This initiative is part of national efforts to develop the local data center ecosystem and to provide a secure, flexible cloud environment that responds to the needs of government entities and the private sector. It helps in ensuring business continuity, improving operational efficiency, and delivering advanced cloud computing solutions. The expansion also aligns with global trends in developing digital infrastructure and accelerating the transition toward a smart and sustainable digital economy.
Mr. Sami Al Shammari said: “This expansion allows us to directly and effectively increase the operational capacity of the Azure Qatar Center by adding new capacity to support highly reliable cloud services. The additional capacities will also enhance the center’s ability to handle rising demand and host advanced solutions that rely on artificial intelligence and automation, while improving levels of efficiency, security, and responsiveness. We are working to strengthen a flexible, scalable cloud infrastructure that meets the technical needs of government entities and the private sector and keeps pace with the requirements of the Digital Agenda 2030.”
For his part, Mr. Mohammed Ali Al-Ghaithani said: “We at MEEZA are pleased to contribute to the expansion of the Azure Qatar center and to the country’s cloud infrastructure services. This is an opportunity for us to make use of our operational expertise to enhance infrastructure readiness, that would enable higher performance and greater capacity to host advanced applications and digital services. We are proud to play a role in enabling government entities and the private sector to access reliable, scalable cloud services, and to work with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in supporting Qatar’s digital transformation journey.”
This agreement will help drive the adoption of cloud services across public and private sector and enable a flexible, scalable digital environment that can accommodate emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and advanced computing.
