MCIT Signed MoU with United Nations University on e-Governance

• MoU aims to enhance joint efforts in digital transformation and e-governance in Qatar.
• Cooperation areas include research activities, capacity building, advisory services, knowledge exchange, and networking.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the United Nations University (UNU) have embarked on a significant journey by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on e-Governance. This landmark agreement is set to bolster digital transformation in the country and elevate academic and fieldwork in e-Governance. The scope of our collaboration is vast, encompassing research activities, capacity building, consulting services, knowledge exchange, and networking.

The memorandum was signed by Mr. Hassan Jassim Al-Sayed, Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Committee representing the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Dr. Delfina Soares,  Director of the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV), in the presence of Her Excellency Dr. Hind Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al-Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland.

Mr. Hassan Jassim Al-Sayed, Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Committee, expressed his optimism about the MoU, stating: “This partnership with the United Nations University is a beacon of hope for the development of electronic governance in our country. It paves the way for the exchange of knowledge and expertise, enabling us to draw from the best global practices in the field of electronic governance”.

He further added: “The areas of cooperation we have agreed upon, such as knowledge exchange, capacity building, and advisory services, are crucial in our journey towards developing effective and transparent electronic governance that aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030”.

The agreed areas of cooperation include:

• Research Activities: Exchanging knowledge and expertise in the field of electronic governance, conducting joint research, and supporting the dissemination of knowledge.
• Capacity Building: Providing specialized training programs for public sector officials and specialists in electronic governance.
• Advisory Services: Offering advice and technical support to government entities at various stages of digital transformation.
• Knowledge Exchange: Establishing joint platforms for sharing information and expertise and organizing specialized conferences and workshops.
• Networking: Enhancing collaboration between research and educational institutions and companies operating in the ICT sector.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding marks a significant milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the United Nations University. This partnership, initiated in October 2022, is focused on improving digital transformation capabilities and supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals.
