“AI and Its Techniques” – Main Aspect of MCIT Participation at Qatar Economic Forum 2024

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has concluded its active participation in the 4th edition of Qatar Economic Forum 2024, held under the theme “A Changing World: Navigating the Unknown” from May 14 to 16. The Forum witnessed wide participation on part of senior government officials, decision-makers, entrepreneurs, investors and experts from different countries worldwide to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing global economy amid the accelerating digital transformations.

The participation of MCIT focused on shedding light on the accomplishments achieved by the State of Qatar in digital transformation, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in promoting innovation, the promising investment opportunities available in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in the country, while highlighting the role of digital technology as a major driver of economic growth and supporter to all sectors.

As part the events organized within the Forum, HE Mr Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, took part in a panel discussion titled “AI: Regulations and Innovation Prospects”, which shed light on the remarkable rise in demand on AI, in addition to speaking widely about the Arabic Artificial Intelligence Large Language Model (LLM) Fanar. HE the Minister said that MCIT is continuously exerting efforts to provide new digital initiatives that contribute to the development of the technological scene in the State of Qatar, including Fanar that is considered a leap in Arabic AI, especially that it is the first model based on genuine Arabic content.

HE the Minister added that the GCC countries will soon become an active player in acquiring developed technologies in both ICT and AI sectors. In the same context, he pointed out to the possibility of increasing investments in search and development, promoting education and training in this field, besides supporting entrepreneurship and innovation by creating an environment that is encouraging for emerging and innovative companies.

In this regard, H.E. Reem Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Industry Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, commented: “The Qatar Economic Forum has quickly become one of the most important events in the Middle East for government and corporate leaders to address the challenges facing our region and the world.  We were delighted to contribute to important discussions on the exciting business and investment opportunities of the fifth industrial revolution (Industry 5.0) and, in turn, Qatar’s far-reaching commitments to building its digital economy in line with the Digital Agenda 2030.”

During the Forum, HE the Minister, Mr Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, and HE Ms Reem Al Mansoori, along with the MCIT delegation, took part in a number of meetings with ministers, economic experts and representatives for IT giants worldwide. The discussions included topics related to digital economy, AI, digital transformation and cloud computing technologies.

Through its participation in Qatar Economic Forum, MCIT is looking forward to enhancing cooperation with other countries and international organizations, exchanging knowledge and best practices, and contributing to ICT development. MCIT is committed to promoting a safe and inclusive digital environment that is beneficial to both citizens and residents, while supporting economic growth and social development in the State of Qatar.
