Minister of Communications and Information Technology: ICT Contributes to 1.9% of Qatar’s GDP

Doha, Qatar

Qatar’s Communications sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP reaches 1.9%, according to HE the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohamed bin Ali Al Mannai.

Speaking to the media yesterday on the sidelines of ‘Qatar IT Roundtable’, organized by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), Al Mannai underscored the importance of ICT role in other sectors of the country, as well as in Qatar’s economic diversification. He added that the roundtable represented an important opportunity to reach out to the private sector and find out their views and needs for future and strategic policies, especially that the Ministry is working on an integrated plan and new goals for the development of communications and information technology, to be ready in the first quarter of 2023.

Speaking on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Minister said Qatar’s ICT infrastructure “is almost ready” and that “work is currently underway on some recent services with the organizers.”
